Product Description A mouse is taking a stroll through the deep, dark wood when along comes a hungry fox, then an owl, and then a snake. The mouse is good enough to eat but smart enough to know this, so he invents . . . the gruffalo! As Mouse explains, the gruffalo is a creature with terrible claws, and terrible tusks in its terrible jaws, and knobbly knees and turned-out toes, and a poisonous wart at the end of its nose. But Mouse has no worry to show. After all, theres no such thing as a gruffalo. . . .

Lovin' The Gruffalo for all ages November 9, 2008 I'm an 8th grade language arts teacher. I just used this book to teach irony, situational and dramatic. The product description does a good job describing the plot. It's about a quick thinking mouse who makes up The Gruffalo to keep others from "inviting" him for lunch, tea, etc. In turn, the mouse is shocked to learn there really is a Gruffalo and uses the other animals to make the Gruffalo believe he is a scary creature himself. My 8th graders loved it, and the simple displays of irony made it a good example for my students, especially my ESL students. My own boys (5 and 6) love it too. It spends time going to and from school with me, and everyone likes to read it again and again.
Awesome Children's Book October 8, 2008 This is a very cute story! A "must have" for all children's personal libraries. It is always so fun to get a great kids book and this is definitely one of them. You won't be disappointed! Our twin 3-year-old boys love it, and we parents love to read it!
A bit of a dilemma? July 9, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
My husband and I found the book very cute, nicely illustrated, and of course you can't beat the title. No wonder there are no bad reviews posted. It took our 4-yr old daughter to point out the obvious: the mouse lies to everyone to protect himself. Which mommy and daddy have worked hard to convince her is NOT a good thing to do. Oops! I suspect we'll have the same issue with many of the world's folk tales...
Gruffalo is Great July 5, 2008 I bought this book on an Amazon recommendation looking for reading material for my 8 yr old nephew. Not only does he love it and enjoy reading it, turns out my 2 yr old niece loves it just as much too. There are lots of pictures balanced with words to keep her attention and an entertaining story to keep his. It is the favorite book of the summer for both of them. A huge hit.
my son's new favourite story March 19, 2008 My not quite two year old loves this story, and regularly chooses it along with "Room on the Broom" from the pile of around twenty children's books, for his bedtime stories. Julia Donaldson's entertaining, rhyming style and simple yet meaningful story, is complimented beautifully by the wonderful, rich illustrations.
