Our family loves this game September 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My kids love the film and once they saw that there was a game version available they had to have it. I read some scathing reviews, but bought the game anyway as my kids were relentless in their desire to play it. After reading the negative reviews and then playing the game, I felt compelled to submit a positive review. The box says that the game is for seven year olds and older, but my five year old son just loves it and he wants to play all the time. In fact, he is learning to read better as he takes his orders from the game.
I have to admit that the game instructions are a bit weak, but the overall package is worth the investment. The box looks like the one in the movie; the game board is laid out exactly like the board in the game, except the game is printed on a standard game board, not pressed tin. The cards eject just like the film. This game is one for those who love the movie.
When we play the game we pretend that our house is really traveling through space and that pieces of our house are getting destroyed by Zorgons. It is one the few games that my wife and I have been adamant about to our children not to lose any pieces.
nice game August 7, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My children have really enjoyed this game and have played it more than any other game thus far. They are 5 and 4 and we have to read the cards, but they are able to do most everything else.
Really Fun for this 5 year old July 7, 2008 I just received and played this game for the first time. Despite the bad reviews my father read me about it, I found it really fun and want to keep playing it over and over. The card dispenser worked great but the cards do look fragile so be careful with them. Willie.
As Willie's father and typist, I would quibble with the "really fun" part, but overall the game worked better than I expected from all the negative reviews. That's hardly an enthusiastic endorsement, I understand, but if your kid has suddenly become as infatuated with the movie as mine has, it's not a bad outlay of $20.
For fans of the movie only May 4, 2008 We bought this game for our 5 year old son, and he loves it. It's not very fun to play, as the rules are complicated and it's a bit cheesy really. But, the cards pop out like in the movie and he likes to set it up while watching the actual movie. It's a shame it's not more like the game in the movie, but it's similar enough that for young fans it's enjoyable.
not a bad game, actually January 18, 2008 Even after reading all the bad reviews for this game, I had to get it for my 4yr old son, as Zathura is one of his favorite movies. I wasn't expexcting much, but the game is actually a fair representation of the one in the film, which makes me think people buying this haven't seen the movie. It's pretty low tech, vs the metal, chain and gear driven one onscreen - which is too bad - but then something like that would have run into 100s of dollars. The 'automatic' card dispenser is fun, but is pretty finicky - if there's any bend to the card they will jam. But otherwise it's a nice, fun game my kids enjoy very much that is pretty easy to play and doesn't take very long. A benefit=they'd rather play the game than watch tv, so I'm happy. I got it on sale and feel it's a pretty good deal. Now, if they'd just start making that robot toy again, I'd be really happy! (you can't even get it on ebay),
