An old friend. January 4, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Nerf Maverick is not a new gun, it's been around for a while, but this time Nerf has recolored it in a yellow trim.
What it is is a pretty decent 6 shooter. Here are my comments regarding the most basic characteristics of any Nerf gun:
1) Power: Spring loaded. The spring pushes an air piston which forces the bullet out with air. These spring loaded guns are not as powerful as some of the air pressure ones. Grade: Decent.
2) Speed: You can fire as quickly as you can push back the spring, and 6 bullets is pretty good for a hand gun. However, the nifty rotating barrel is a trade off. You can rotate the barrel out for easy loading, but in my experience, the more parts there are, the more things can get damaged. There are some other 6 shooters out there which are simpler, but not as nifty. Grade: Decent.
3) Jamming: Rare.
Pros and Cons: Because of the huge barrel, the gun is somewhat heavy, but nothing that a 7-8 year old can't handle. Same for the amount of force needed to pull back the spring. Anyone younger than that, I'm not sure if they should be playing with Nerf as you can shoot someone in the eye and that's not fun. Right now, this is about the cheapest and simplest 6 shooter that Nerf is selling and is pretty much a basic necessity for anyone's arsenal. If you like Nerf, I'd definitely get this just because you need at least 1 multiple shot handgun.

Check your local walmart or kmart before ordering; You may be pleasantly surprised by their pricing.
Works as advertised, shoots relatively straight. Not the most powerful nor is it the weakest.
Best part is the multi-barrel system. Works as well as it looks. Also if you give it a custom paint job (wish I could upload a picture of mine) it can easily look like Hellboy's pistol. What could be cooler than that?
I love it and it's super cheap. Get a couple of them and have a shootout with a loved one.
great nerf handgun December 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got this gun for cubicle warfare. I only paid $8 for it, so I'm pleased. It has decent range and pretty impressive accuracy. The darts will stick to most flat surfaces. You'll want to pick up a pack of extra darts. The size and weight are perfect for being sneaky without sacrificing performance. This isn't a puny gun.
I knocked off a point for a few reasons. It doesn't fire consistently, but it seemed to get better after a little use. Using it for more than a few minutes gives me a blister on my thumb, but I let it slide, because it was probably designed for children. It isn't very easy to reload. I wish it had clips or something. This is important in combat scenarios.
i hate it December 23, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
my son loves it, but he's 3 years old and can't cock it himself. actually, it's not easy for me either.
