external hard drive January 7, 2009 This product arrived in great time and i have been fully satisfied with this product. It works great and i recommend it to others.
it's ok January 7, 2009 You have to plug it in, and turn it on, it's not quite as fast as a solid state hard drive but hey - 500gig - that's understandable.
It self installs and the transfer speed is decent enough but if you use it for 12 hours in a row or so it starts getting unreliable - I was backing up a couple hard drives and then copying them from the portable drive to another computer, just copied files continuously and around hour 12 it started being unable to read from the portable drive.
Turned it off and let it cool down for an hour and the next time I tried everything was fine.
Repeated the process the next day with a second drive - same thing happened.
Basically it does the job, and worked - but it didn't particularly impress me =) Still - good purchase for the money.
Not as compatible as advertised January 7, 2009 I tried three different disks (three of Iomega 500gb USB, not three different kinds) on my various Macs and obtained varying results on my different Mac computers. Once plugged in, most times the computer did not find the disk. It would start to spin, then stop. Other times, the disk icon appeared for a while then disappeared. One disk did not work with my brand new macbook pro. The other two did and they allowed me to format them appropriately. When I plugged them into my P5 iMacs with Leopard on them, they were not found at all. I returned all three for a refund. I need more reliability than that and needed them to back up my computers. I have since purchased Western Digital "My Books", which work flawlessly and nearly silently with the above named computers. These Iomega disks don't seem hardy or reliable enough as back up disks as opposed to Iomega disks I purchased in the past.
Great buy for the cash... January 7, 2009 The hard drive is a great buy for the money, i've had it for about a month so far and have had no issues with the drive. I would have gotten a faster FIREWIRE hard drive if i had more cash, but for the $80 dollars i spent on this there is nothing better out there.
